During February, members of the ROCOL team have been tracking their steps as they look to virtually walk the 874 miles from Land’s End to John O’Groats. Along the way, we have asked colleagues to take as many photos as possible to document their remote walks to help keep everyone motivated.

It’s exciting to announce that we are now just 60 miles from John O’Groats, with the team confident that we can complete the return journey by the end of February, which would be a fantastic achievement!

As a further incentive, we are offering prizes for the department with the greatest individual mileage, the team and individual with the best mileage as well as the best picture was taken on a walk.

The walking challenge is just one part of a company-wide wellbeing drive, with a game of lockdown bingo also taking place. Players are picking up their dibber, dabber and dobber to mark off activities such as washing the car, completing a DIY task or doing a Zoom fitness class with the goal of completing lines or even getting a full house.

Supporting our team

The last 12 months have been tough on everyone. Nobody is immune to the stresses that have been placed upon us. It’s important for us to do all we can to support anyone in our team who may need it.

As well as our wellbeing challenges, we have trained a team of six mental health first aiders who are on hand to support any member of the ROCOL team who may need it. Each member of the team has undertaken a formal qualification, Understanding Mental Health First Aid and Mental Health Advocacy in the Workplace, to enable them to offer support in a supportive and confidential manner.

Helen Walton, one of the ROCOL mental health first aiders, says, “If people are feeling down, experiencing problems at work or at home, or just fancy a chat, we are here to help. Talking through problems can help people feel better, and the service is 100% confidential. We can offer as much or as little support as people wish, and can point them in the direction of other services which may help further.”
